about
Who:
I’m G.L. and this is one of my lockdown projects.
What:
StableTakes are inter-subreddit team debates around various topics.
Where:
Here at stabletake.com, as well as @stabletake on twitter; instagram; facebook; youtube
When:
For now, whenever I can find two subs that would like to participate. Eventually, I'm hoping for every weekday.
Why:
My goal was to find a system or process that would create more stable discussions around a topic. Social media is great for some purposes, but finding a reliably civil, balanced, and sourced discussion between to opposing sides is still difficult. So I developed this with the hope that it would produce fun, cross-pollinated discussions.
For the subreddits that participate in debates, I hope it provides a little change of pace and fun. Additionally, the debates increase exposure for the subreddits, perhaps even gaining them new followers.
How:
Each time there's a StableTake (ST), two subreddits will "team debate" on a topic.
Each side takes turns making points/counterpoints with the most liked point/counterpoint being copied and pasted (by me) onto the opposing sub after each turn. I reserve the right to shut down an ST if I think it's gone off the rails.
At the end of the ST (one day, max), the composite discussion featuring all the points, in order, is presented to r/stabletake as well as social platforms.
